The founder of Gucci was a hotel employee

Gucci was founded by a leather craftsman named Guccio Gucci who was a hotel employee. He works at the Savoy Hotel in London, England. It was his experience working there that inspired him to make leather crafts with a classic British feel in his work. Guccio began his career by establishing a company in Florence, Italy, back in 1921. This is the forerunner to the formation of the Gucci label.

Gucci’s clients are mostly from the nobility

The aristocrats who liked to ride became Gucci’s first clients in large numbers. They asked to be made equipment for riding. Until finally, this brand is famous for horseshoe details on its loafers and mule designs.

In 1966, the legendary American actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, had a special request to Gucci. He wanted to be made a silk scarf with details of vintage shades. Unexpectedly, the floral scarf is still being sold and has a lot of demand until now. In 2015, Gucci asked Kris Knight artists to redraw and present it in the 2015 Cruise collection.

It was so iconic, one of the mainstay products of Gucci, loafers with distinctive horseshoe details on the front, entered into a collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1985. These loafers were created in 1932 and are widely used by the aristocracy.

Most people do not know more about this one of the facts of Gucci. Guccio and his wife, Aida Calvelli, have six children, two daughters, and four sons. However, only his four sons, Aldo, Ugo, Vasco, and Rodolfo, were directly involved in leading the company to make it as popular as they are today.

During his four children’s intervention, apparently, there was a lot of drama going on in the family. Until finally after Guccio died in 1953, Aldo and his younger siblings focused on promoting Gucci internationally by opening boutiques in Paris, London, and New York.

Designer Tom Ford played a big role in the success of Gucci

In the early ’90s, Gucci’s prestige was destroyed and dropped when many fake goods were circulating everywhere. To restore the luxury image of this fashion house, the company appointed an American designer, Tom Ford, to become the Artistic Director from 1994 to 2005. Ford played a major role and was very instrumental in restoring Gucci’s luxurious and elegant image.
